Mount Wolf’s Charlie Stambaugh has designed a regional plumbing business’s website, and to draw attention, he’s collecting photos of outhouses. The business’s pages are full of outhouses, many submitted from York County, Pa.,  readers. ‘The one pic from Mt Wolf (above) with the two doors is from the Mt Wolf Train station … . That outhouse is in better shape than the train station,’ he wrote in an email. He’s looking for other submissions to post on the site, which is filled with interesting details and trivia about outhouses. And a quiz: Are outhouses still legal in Pennsylvania? And the title on another page: ‘History stinks.’ So if you have a standing outhouse in your yard, email the photo to Charlie. Also of interest: Outhouses common in York only 40 years ago.

Other neat stuff from all over …

Cheryl Keener Smyers wrote on Facebook that the Eric Frein hunt underway in northeastern Pennsylvania reminds her of the hunt for the kidnapper of Peggy Ann Bradnick near Huntingdon County’s Shade Gap in 1966.

“I was a junior in high school in Mercersburg and ended up working a few years later at the Waynesboro Record Herald with the reporter and photographer who were awarded a Pulitzer Prize for their reporting/photography – Bob Cox and Ken Peiffer,” she wrote.

“They worked at the Chambersburg Public Opinion at the time. For 8 days, the woods were full of police and FBI, and the world held it’s breath until Peggy was found. I still have a copy of the book that Bob wrote that was made into a movie. Maybe someone there remembers that.”

Andrea J. Mumford emailed  interesting information about her father in law, with Ken Burns’  documentary on the Roosevelts in mind.

Robert V. Mumford, 90, served in the Navy in World War II. In fact, he was selected as an honor guard at the Roosevelt White House.

“He stated that Mrs.  Roosevelt was very kind to the service men and would Frequently speak to them.”
